Pebbly Beach is a sheltered gem on Forster's coastal walk, famous for the "Tanks" rock formation that creates a calm, protected inlet perfect for snorkeling. Despite its name, the beach has plenty of soft sand, but the real draw is the long stretches of ocean-polished rounded pebbles and boulders just offshore, teeming with fish and marine life in crystal-clear waters. Located between Main Beach and Second Head Lookout along the Bicentennial Walk, this family-friendly spot offers a playground, picnic shelters, and barbecues in the adjacent park. Unpatrolled, so swimmers and snorkelers should stay alert.

Moderate risk: No lifeguard patrol
This location is not patrolled by lifesavers — swimmers and snorkelers are entirely responsible for their own safety.
Low risk: Surf conditions can arise
In the right swells, Pebbly can be a popular surf break, meaning stronger waves and currents can appear unexpectedly.
Low risk: Slippery rocks
The round ocean-polished rocks that make snorkeling great can become extremely slippery when wet, posing a slip hazard when entering or exiting the water.
Low risk: Tidal changes
At low tide the pool drains, exposing the sandy floor — swimming depth varies significantly with the tide cycle.
Low risk: Wave overtopping
At high tide waves crash over the surrounding rock formations, which can surprise inexperienced swimmers near the edges.
