Tucked within the rugged Croajingolong National Park in East Gippsland, Pebbly Beach is a remote coastal gem where the bush meets the Bass Strait. Accessed via the scenic Old Coast Road from Shipwreck Creek, this pebbly shoreline is flanked by rocky headlands and shallow reefs that create calm, clear snorkeling conditions when the swell is low. The surrounding wilderness — ancient eucalypts, granite boulders, and heathlands — adds a wild, off-grid feel. It's the kind of spot where you can float above rocky reef gardens in near solitude, with only the sound of waves and birdlife for company.

Moderate risk: Rough swell and surf
Exposed to Bass Strait swells; snorkeling is best on calm, low-swell days. Dangerous rip currents can form near the headlands.
Low risk: Remote location
Limited mobile reception and no lifeguard patrol. Emergency assistance is far away — self-sufficiency is essential.
Low risk: Rocky shoreline
Entry and exit is over pebbles and submerged rocks. Reef shoes are strongly recommended to avoid cuts and slips.
Low risk: Cold water temperatures
Southern ocean waters are cool year-round, ranging from 12-18°C. A wetsuit (3-5mm) is advisable for comfortable snorkeling.
