Don't let the name fool you — Pea Soup Beach (also known as South Beach) is a stunning sheltered cove on the southern side of Port Fairy, on Victoria's Discovery Coast. Its calm, reef-protected waters shimmer in aqua-blue hues, making it the beach where local children learn to swim. At low tide, shallow lagoons form between the shore and offshore reefs, creating perfect pools for snorkelers of all ages. The beach offers easy access from multiple car parks along Ocean Drive, and the fringing reef is alive with underwater interest. It's one of Port Fairy's most reliable calm-weather snorkeling spots.

Low risk: Low tide reef exposure
At low tide the reef platform shallows significantly and shallow lagoons form between beach and reef, requiring care to avoid sharp rocks and sea urchins when entering the water.
Low risk: Swell wrap on windy days
While generally sheltered, strong southerly or south-westerly winds can push some swell around the reef into the cove, creating choppy conditions.
