Parsons Beach Reef runs the length of Parsons Beach, a stunning 14-kilometre stretch of white sand backed by rolling dunes on the western Yorke Peninsula, west of Minlaton. This near-shore rocky reef creates protected shallows that are ideal for beginner snorkelers, offering easy shoreline access to calm waters teeming with life. The reef's rock pools and seagrass meadows are perfect for exploring at low tide, spotting abalone and scallops, while the beach's unspoiled coastal setting — with onshore westerly winds and no surf — makes it a tranquil, family-friendly snorkeling destination on South Australia's beautiful Yorke Peninsula.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Low risk: Rocky outcrops at low tide

Rocky reef areas and outcrops are exposed at low tide; take care when wading or entering the water.

  • Low risk: Driving on beach

4WD vehicles drive along the beach, so keep an eye out for traffic when walking to the water's edge.

  • Low risk: Remote location

This is a relatively remote stretch of coast with limited services; come prepared with water, food, and first aid.

  • Low risk: Strong southerly winds

Parsons Beach is exposed to southerly winds which can quickly churn up the shallows, reducing visibility and creating challenging conditions.

  • Low risk: Vehicle traffic on beach

Vehicles are permitted to drive along the beach, so snorkelers should remain vigilant and stay clear of vehicle access areas.
