One Bum Beach is a delightful shallow dive and snorkel site nestled between Barren Island and Child Island, 11 km east of Great Keppel Island on the southern Great Barrier Reef. The site features gentle depths of 6–9 metres (20–30 ft) with vibrant fringing reefs that host a dazzling array of hard and soft corals. The sheltered waters of the passage between the islands offer calm conditions ideal for snorkelers, while the surrounding reef teems with tropical fish, Spanish mackerel, tuna, trevally, black kingfish, and the occasional manta ray. Its informal name belies a serious beauty — this is a hidden gem for those seeking a remote, world-class reef experience off the Capricorn Coast.
