Olive Point headland, on the northern tip of Middle Island in the Keppel Bay Islands National Park, offers exceptional fringing reef snorkeling straight from the shore. This rocky headland is surrounded by shallow coral gardens that are exposed at low tide, making it a prime spot for reef walking as well as snorkeling. Part of the Southern Great Barrier Reef, the site features a mix of hard and soft corals, coral bommies, and sandy patches teeming with marine life. The clear, warm waters and protected nature of the bay make it a rewarding and accessible snorkel destination for those visiting the island by boat or tour from Yeppoon.

Low risk: Exposed reef at low tide
The fringing reef becomes very shallow at low tide, with sharp coral exposed. Snorkelers should take care to avoid standing on or touching coral, and reef walking should be done with sturdy footwear.
Low risk: Tidal currents around headland
Strong tidal currents can develop around the headland, especially during spring tides, which may carry snorkelers away from the shore.
