Ocean Reef is a northern Perth suburb named for the broken line of reef visible several kilometres offshore. The sandy beaches and limestone reef platforms along this stretch of the Sunset Coast provide sheltered nearshore snorkelling grounds where limestone bommies and seagrass patches host small reef fish. Calmer conditions prevail in the morning before the sea breeze arrives, making the inshore zones a reasonable choice for a relaxed snorkel. The reef that gives the area its name lies further offshore and is best explored by boat.
