Observation Point juts into the clear, nutrient-rich waters of the Great Australian Bight on the western Eyre Peninsula, offering a raw, exposed snorkeling experience along a granite headland dotted with shallow reefs and protected gutters. This is not a sandy beach — expect to enter via rocky ledges into cool, often surging water where kelp forests sway over boulder gardens. The point catches the full sweep of the Southern Ocean, rewarding adventurous snorkelers with excellent visibility on calm days and the chance to drift along the reef edge.

Moderate risk: Tidal current
Strong tidal flows run around the point, especially during outgoing tides, and can quickly sweep snorkelers away from the entry point.
Moderate risk: Swell surge on rocky ledges
The Southern Ocean swell can create powerful surge zones along the granite ledges, making entry and exit hazardous.
Low risk: Cold water temperature
During the austral winter months, sea temperatures drop significantly and conditions become more unpredictable.
Low risk: Remote location
The remote location means limited mobile reception and no nearby medical facilities.
