Stretching along the rugged northern coast of Lord Howe Island, the North Head to Fishy Point snorkel traverse offers a raw, wild experience far from the island's calm lagoon. The exposed rocky headland of North Head gives way to a series of small coves and reef shelves dropping into crystalline Pacific waters. Snorkellers here drift over ancient basalt boulders encrusted with coral, through channels carved by swell, and past the shallow wreck of the Favourite. This is a pristine, less-frequented marine environment where the interface of open ocean and rocky shoreline creates exceptional visibility and encounters with schooling fish, turtles, and stingrays. A guided-only zone, it rewards those seeking Lord Howe's wilder side.

Moderate risk: Ocean swell and surge
The exposed northern coastline is subject to ocean swells that can create strong and unpredictable surge conditions, especially around rocky headlands and reef channels.
Moderate risk: Tidal currents
Tidal currents can run strongly through the channels between North Head and adjacent islets, particularly during outgoing tides.
Low risk: Sharp rocks and coral
Sharp basalt rock formations and coral bommies are present along the shoreline and in shallow reef areas.
