North Bay Beach is a sheltered crescent of white sand on Tasmania's stunning east coast, just north of the fishing town of Bicheno. Framed by granite boulders and coastal scrub, the calm, clear waters of this north-facing bay offer excellent shore-entry snorkeling over sandy patches and rocky reef areas. Its protected aspect makes it a reliable spot for exploring temperate Tasmanian waters teeming with marine life, while the surrounding coastline provides a dramatic backdrop of orange-lichen-covered rocks and deep blue sea.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Low risk: Swell exposure

North-facing beach can receive wrap-around swell from the Tasman Sea during southerly winds, creating occasional dumping waves near shore.

  • Low risk: Rip currents

Unpredictable rip currents can form near the rocky headlands at either end of the bay, particularly after larger swell events.
