Norman Beach curves along the southern edge of Tidal River at Wilsons Promontory National Park, Victoria's southernmost mainland point. This sheltered, white-sand beach offers calm, clear waters protected by the promontory's granite headlands, making it a reliable snorkeling spot for all ages. The sandy seabed gradually shelves into seagrass meadows where diverse marine life shelters. With the rugged backdrop of Mount Oberon and surrounding coastal heathland, it's one of the most accessible wild-swim locations in the park, though water temperatures remain cool year-round.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Low risk: Cool water temperatures

Water temperatures rarely exceed 18°C even in summer, increasing risk of cold shock and hypothermia during extended swims.

  • Low risk: Rip currents near river mouth

Where Tidal River meets the sea, outflow currents can develop, particularly after heavy rain or on outgoing tides.

  • Low risk: Southern Ocean swell

Despite sheltering, occasional southerly swells can wrap around the promontory and produce unexpected shore dump waves.
