Tucked 40 km south of Carnarvon on the remote Wooramel Coast within the Shark Bay World Heritage Area, New Beach and Bush Bay offer a pristine tidal lagoon experience with calm, clear shallows perfect for snorkeling just before sunset. Mangrove-lined shores give way to sandy-bottomed swimming holes where the Indian Ocean's warm currents roll in. The lack of development means you get an unspoiled coastal wilderness, popular for self-contained camping, paddleboarding, and kayaking alongside your snorkel adventure.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Moderate risk: Marine Stingers

Box jellyfish and irukandji may be present during warmer months (November–May). Wear a stinger suit.

  • Low risk: Tidal Currents (lagoon)

The bay is tidal, with currents that can shift as water flows in and out of the mangrove-lined lagoon. Snorkel at incoming or slack tide for safest conditions.

  • Low risk: Shark Presence

The area lies within the Shark Bay World Heritage Area; occasional shark sightings and whale carcass advisories have been issued. Swim with caution and heed local alerts.

  • Low risk: Remote Location

No fresh water, fuel, food, supplies, or mobile reception at the site. The access road is gravel and may become impassable after rain.
