Nepean Island is a small uninhabited limestone islet rising 800 m south of Norfolk Island's Kingston coast. Unlike its volcanic neighbours, this Late Pleistocene calcarenite outcrop is ringed by tall cliffs and surrounded by clear, nutrient-rich waters that draw vibrant marine life. The island's isolation and protected status within Norfolk Island National Park means the surrounding reef system is pristine. Snorkelers circle the perimeter by boat or kayak, exploring the rocky drop-offs, underwater ledges, and coral gardens where tropical fish, turtles, and reef sharks are frequently sighted. The dramatic contrast of the white limestone cliffs against the deep blue Pacific creates a stunning backdrop for an adventurous off-shore snorkel experience.

Getting in
Nepean Island lies about 800 m south of Norfolk Island, opposite Kingston. Access is by private boat or kayak from Norfolk Island's southern coast. Landfall is extremely difficult due to tall cliffs—this is primarily a snorkeling destination around the island's perimeter, not a beach landing.
Park at the Kingston area on Norfolk Island's southern shore, then launch from there. No parking on Nepean Island itself.
