Nelson Beach, nestled within Mimosa Rocks National Park on the Sapphire Coast, is a protected and peaceful bay with glistening aqua-blue waters and pristine white sand. A short dune walk from the carpark reveals a secluded gem ideal for swimming, surfing, and picnicking. The northern end leads to tranquil Nelson Lagoon, a calm swimming hole surrounded by thick Australian bushland. Named after George Nelson who mysteriously disappeared here in the 1800s, this beach offers stunning coastal views from nearby Wajurda Point and a wonderfully uncrowded escape.

Low risk: Shark risk at lagoon mouth
Fishing activity near Nelson Creek and the lagoon entrance may attract sharks; best to avoid swimming near the inlet at dawn and dusk.
Low risk: Beach closures due to weather or fire danger
Mimosa Rocks National Park may close the beach during poor weather, high fire danger, or park alerts — check NPWS alerts before visiting.
Low risk: Unsealed access road
Nelson Lake Road is unsealed; loose gravel and dust can reduce traction, especially after rain.
