Narrawong Beach sits on the northern shore of Portland Bay alongside the mouth of the Surry River, offering a sheltered and family-friendly snorkelling experience in western Victoria. The shallow, sand-bottomed inshore waters around the river mouth are calm on most summer days, making it a safe spot for kids to explore. Bream can often be seen cruising the shallows, and the adjacent Narrawong Coastal Reserve provides a grassy foreshore with easy beach access. Patrolled in peak summer, this beach combines gentle conditions with a relaxed holiday atmosphere.

Low risk: Strong surf conditions
When swells pick up, the exposed beach can develop strong surf and rip currents, particularly outside the sheltered river mouth area.
Low risk: Outgoing river current
The Surry River mouth outflow can create a channel of faster-moving water pushing out to sea, especially after heavy rain.
Low risk: Boat traffic near ramp
The local boat ramp adjacent to the camping ground sees regular launching activity during the warmer months, creating potential conflicts for swimmers and snorkellers near the channel.
