Where Nadgee Lake meets the Tasman Sea, this dynamic sandbar entrance shifts with the seasons, creating a unique snorkeling playground in the heart of Nadgee Nature Reserve. On calm days, the clear lagoon water pours over the sandbar into the ocean, offering a shallow, protected snorkel zone where gentle currents carry you between lake and sea. Set within one of NSW's most pristine and least-visited coastal wilderness areas, this spot rewards adventurous snorkelers with sparkling clarity, empty beaches, and a raw, untouched feel that's rare on the South Coast. The surrounding reserve is home to wallabies, native birds, and exceptional solitude.

Moderate risk: Unstable sandbar and entrance conditions
The lake entrance is a dynamic sandbar that shifts with tides, swell, and rainfall. Depth and current patterns can change rapidly, creating unexpected drop-offs.
Moderate risk: Ocean currents and rips
When the lake is flowing out to sea, strong outgoing currents and rip-like flows can develop across the sandbar, especially on ebb tides.
Low risk: Remote location
Nadgee Nature Reserve is a remote wilderness area with limited phone reception, no permanent lifeguards, and emergency services far away.
Low risk: Shark presence
The entrance zone between estuary and ocean may attract sharks, particularly bull sharks, common in NSW coastal lakes and estuaries.
