Murrells Beach (aka Bridgewater Bay 1 Beach) is a sweeping 1 km stretch of sand tucked between the basalt cliffs of Cape Nelson and Cape Bridgewater on Victoria's Discovery Coast. Protected by Cape Nelson and extensive offshore reefs, the beach offers a sheltered entry with an attached sandy bar that drops to 15 m depth. The backdrop of towering dune-capped calcarenite bluffs rising to 100 m makes for a dramatic setting, while the crystal-clear waters over submerged reef structures reward snorkelers with excellent visibility in calm conditions.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Moderate risk: Rip currents

Strong rips develop toward the northern end of the beach, particularly when swell picks up.

  • Moderate risk: Swell and wind exposure

The bay faces south and is exposed to high waves and strong winds. White water conditions indicate unsafe entry.
