Munglinup Beach is a hidden gem on WA's south coast, roughly 130km west of Esperance. A shallow offshore reef runs parallel to the white-sand beach, creating a calm, protected lagoon that's ideal for snorkelling — especially for families and beginners. The reef shelters the lagoon from ocean swell, resulting in crystal-clear turquoise water. Rocky outcrops at the western end provide additional nooks to explore. The beach is backed by coastal scrub and has a small campground just metres from the sand, giving it a remote, unspoiled feel despite being easily accessible by 2WD via a well-maintained gravel road.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • High risk: Rips beyond reef

Strong rips and larger swell can occur beyond the reef; snorkellers should stay inside the lagoon and avoid the outer reef edge.

  • Low risk: Sharp reef at low tide

The protective reef can become exposed at low tide, creating sharp rock hazards for waders and snorkellers. Wear reef shoes.

  • Low risk: Unsealed road conditions

Gravel access road can become corrugated and slippery after rain. Drive carefully.
