Moray Mooring is a dedicated dive and snorkel mooring on the sheltered southern side of Split Solitary Island within the Solitary Islands Marine Park, off Coffs Harbour on the NSW North Coast. This site follows a gently sloping rocky reef and drop-off, where white-eyed moray eels lurk among the boulders, wobbegong sharks rest on the sand, and colourful schools of southern fusiliers, butterflyfish, and blue groper drift through the shallows. The clear, nutrient-rich waters drawn by the East Australian Current bring an impressive diversity of macro life including nudibranchs and banded coral shrimp.

Moderate risk: Ocean current
Northerly or southerly ocean currents can sweep around Fish Rock, requiring snorkelers to stay close to the mooring line and monitor drift carefully.
Moderate risk: Strong currents
Offshore reef site can experience tidal currents around the rocky structures.
Low risk: Camouflaged wobbegong sharks
Ornate and spotted wobbegong sharks are frequently seen resting on ledges and sand patches; though not aggressive, they are well-camouflaged and will defend themselves if stepped on or startled.
Low risk: Sharp rocks / marine growth
Exposed rocky outcrops and bommies with sharp barnacle and oyster growth near the mooring line.
Low risk: Boat traffic
Boat traffic from dive charter vessels and recreational boats using the mooring — stay aware and surface with caution.
Low risk: Variable visibility
Visibility can be inconsistent and lower than nearby South Solitary Island, especially after weather events.
Low risk: Depth
Snorkelers should be comfortable in deeper water as the mooring is offshore on a reef system.
Low risk: Ocean currents
The site can experience moderate currents, especially on a flowing tide, common in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Best dived on a slack tide.
Low risk: Swell exposure
Southern side of Split Solitary is more protected, but larger southerly swells can affect conditions and create surge near the drop-off.
