Moore Reef is one of Cairns' premier outer Great Barrier Reef sites, sitting about 45 km offshore in crystal-clear Coral Sea waters. The reef features shallow coral gardens that burst with branching corals, giant clams, and swarms of tropical fish, all visible just beneath the surface from a purpose-built two-storey floating pontoon. Green and hawksbill turtles glide regularly through the lagoon zone, while clownfish dart among anemones in the shallows. The pontoon acts as a floating adventure hub with snorkel platforms, an underwater observatory, glass-bottom boat tours, and a waterslide, making the reef accessible to swimmers and non-swimmers alike. With visibility often exceeding 15-20 metres and warm water year-round, Moore Reef delivers a world-class snorkelling experience suitable for all ages.
