Monkey Beach Reef is Great Keppel Island's most valuable dive and snorkel site, sitting within a protected bay on the island's eastern side. Accessible via a scenic 40-minute walk from Fisherman's Beach or by boat, this fringing reef boasts exceptionally high coral cover with at least 38 coral species. The crystal-clear turquoise waters offer snorkellers direct beach entry onto a vibrant reef teeming with tropical fish, turtles, and rays — all part of the stunning Southern Great Barrier Reef.

Moderate risk: Marine stingers (jellyfish)
Box jellyfish and other marine stingers may be present in warmer months. Wearing a stinger suit is recommended.
Low risk: Outgoing tide current
Tidal currents can be strong around the reef edge, especially during outgoing tide. Snorkellers should be aware of changing conditions.
Low risk: Sharp coral
Living coral formations are sharp and can cause cuts. Do not stand or rest on coral; use sandy patches to stand.
