Tucked into the granite-fringed coastline of the Bay of Fires near Sloop Reef Campground, Mermaid Pool is a natural rock pool that fills with crystal-clear seawater at high tide. Roughly 3 metres deep at its centre, this sheltered, aquamarine plunge pool is framed by smooth orange-lichen-stained boulders, making it feel like a private grotto. The calm, protected waters are ideal for a leisurely snorkel or a refreshing dip, with the surrounding bushland and turquoise ocean views adding to the wild, untouched beauty. Accessible via a short bush track from the end of the road, it's a beloved local secret and one of the East Coast's finest hidden gems.

Low risk: Tide-dependent access
The pool is only fully formed and accessible at high tide; at low tide the water level drops significantly, reducing depth and exposing sharp rocks.
Low risk: Slippery rocks
The surrounding granite boulders can be extremely slippery, especially when wet, posing a slip-and-fall risk when entering or exiting the water.
Low risk: Sharp reef/rock edges
The pool's edges are formed by jagged sandstone and granite rocks that can cause cuts and scrapes.
