Mermaid Reef is a renowned offshore dive and snorkel site off Crowdy Head, featuring a complex underwater landscape of multiple pinnacles, deep gutters, and bomboras (bommies) ranging from 12m to 30m depth. The reef is draped in large gorgonian sea fans and soft corals, attracting pelagic baitfish schools, stingrays, moray eels, and regular visits from grey nurse and whaler sharks. This exposed offshore reef requires a boat to access and offers advanced-level conditions with strong currents, making it a premier spot for experienced snorkelers and divers on the NSW Mid North Coast.
