Tucked away on the northern side of Hook Island in the Whitsundays, Maureen's Cove is a secluded coral rubble beach that opens onto a stunning fringing reef teeming with marine life. The underwater terrain is a snorkeller's dream — shallow coral bommies, sandy valleys, crevices, and small caves to explore, all set against uninterrupted views of the Coral Sea. Sheltered from southeast trade winds but exposed to northerlies, this remote cove offers a true wilderness snorkeling experience accessible only by boat.

Moderate risk: Northerly wind exposure
Strong northerly winds can create choppy conditions and dangerous surges against the reef. Best visited when SE trade winds prevail (April–October).
Moderate risk: Marine stingers
Marine stingers (box jellyfish and irukandji) may be present in warmer months (October–May). Wear a stinger suit.
Low risk: Tidal access restriction
The beach is only accessible at mid to high tide; low tide leaves shallow water with limited snorkeling access over the reef.
Low risk: Shallow coral bommies
Shallow coral bommies and reef patches can be difficult to see at certain tides, posing a risk of cuts or coral damage.
