Tucked between Maroubra and La Perouse, Malabar Beach is a quiet, uncrowded gem on Sydney's eastern coastline. The sheltered waters around the northern rock platform and boat ramp create a calm snorkeling zone teeming with fish, rays, and octopus. The rocky headlands frame a sandy beach that offers excellent visibility on a calm day, making it a favourite local alternative to the busier city spots. The adjacent Malabar Headland National Park adds a dramatic backdrop of coastal cliffs and bushland.

Moderate risk: Rip currents at the beach
Like many Sydney beaches, rips can form, particularly near the southern headland. Swim between the flags when patrolled.
Low risk: Rock platform cuts and barnacles
The northern rock platform can be sharp with exposed barnacles at low tide. Swim fins or booties recommended.
Low risk: Boat traffic near the ramp
The boat ramp area has occasional boat launching activity; stay clear of the ramp channel.
Low risk: Swell at the southern end
When the swell picks up from the south-east, waves can break over the reef shelf, creating surge conditions.
