Lorne Beach on Victoria's Great Ocean Road offers excellent snorkelling around its rocky areas and rock platforms flanking the ends of the 1.2 km golden sand beach. Sheltered in Loutit Bay and protected from large swells, the nearshore rocks and reef shelves teem with marine life close to shore. The Erskine River mouth at the northern end and adjacent rock platforms create diverse underwater terrain to explore, with clear blue waters making it ideal for beginner and intermediate snorkellers seeking a relaxed coastal adventure.

Moderate risk: Rips at rock platforms
The rock platforms at either end of the beach can create strong rip currents, especially when swell increases.
Low risk: Ocean holes near shore
Large holes in the ocean floor near the shoreline are not immediately visible and can pose a risk to waders and snorkellers entering the water.
Low risk: Rocky terrain hazard
Sharp rocks and reef shelves in the snorkelling areas can cause cuts and scrapes; care is needed when entering and exiting the water.
