Long Reef Point is a dramatic sandstone headland on Sydney's Northern Beaches, sheltering a huge intertidal rock platform that is part of the Long Reef Aquatic Reserve. At low tide, the exposed rock shelf reveals a labyrinth of shallow pools, boulder fields, and channels teeming with marine life, making it one of Sydney's most accessible natural aquariums. The point overlooks Collaroy Beach to the north and Long Reef Beach to the south, with panoramic views stretching from Manly to Narrabeen. Above, the grassy headland is a launch point for paragliders, while the calm eastern gutters offer sheltered snorkelling conditions on favourable tides.

Moderate risk: Incoming tide isolation risk
The extensive rock platform can be cut off by the rising tide. Always check tide charts and return well before the tide covers the platform.
Moderate risk: Swell and surge
Ocean swells can create dangerous surge conditions across the rock platform, especially on the eastern and northern edges. Snorkel only on calm, low-swell days.
Low risk: Rock platform sharp edges
The sandstone and rock platform can be very sharp and slippery. Reef shoes or wetsuit booties are essential to avoid cuts.
Low risk: Rock fishing hazards
Rock fishing occurs on the point and platform edges. Snorkelers should stay clear of fishing lines and hooked areas.
