Long Jetty (also known as Ocean Jetty) stretches out from historic Bathers Beach in Fremantle, Western Australia. Built in 1873, this former 750-foot commercial pier was once the bustling hub of Fremantle's maritime trade. Today its submerged timber piles and remnants sit in shallow, calm waters (max 4m depth), creating an artificial reef teeming with marine life. The site is part of Fremantle's rich maritime heritage, with the nearby WA Shipwrecks Museum adding context. The jetty's old pilings are encrusted with colourful sponges and soft corals, sheltering schools of fish, making it a fascinating shore-entry snorkel and dive just metres from the sand.

Moderate risk: Boat traffic
The jetty area is close to Fremantle Port; recreational and commercial vessels may pass nearby. Keep a lookout and stay clear of the shipping channel.
Low risk: Shallow water depth
Maximum depth is around 4 metres. Snorkelers and divers must be mindful not to surface directly under any remaining jetty structure.
Low risk: Silt and reduced visibility
Fine sand and silt on the seabed can be stirred up easily, reducing visibility, especially after rough weather or strong swell.
Low risk: Submerged jetty debris
Historic timber piles and metal remnants lie buried or partially exposed. Avoid touching or kicking to prevent injury and protect marine growth.
