London Bridge is a striking limestone rock arch carved into the coastline of Mornington Peninsula National Park, just steps from Portsea Surf Beach. At low tide, vast turquoise rockpools emerge around and beneath the arch, creating a natural aquarium perfect for snorkeling. The relatively sheltered, shallow pools are rich with hidden crevices teeming with marine life, including colourful reef fish, crabs, and the occasional visit from Australian fur seals. This unique spot offers a safe, family-friendly snorkeling experience against a dramatic coastal backdrop — the best-known snorkeling nook on the Mornington Peninsula.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Moderate risk: Ocean swell and surge

Southern Ocean swells can produce strong and unpredictable surge conditions around the arch and reef, particularly during winter storms.

  • Moderate risk: Rough surf and strong swells

Bass Strait produces powerful waves and rips, especially on windy days. The ocean beach is exposed and can be treacherous for swimming.

  • Moderate risk: Unstable cliff edges

The clifftop near the lookout has unstable edges due to erosion. Do not jump the safety fence.

  • Low risk: Tide-dependent access

The rockpools are most accessible and safest at low tide. At high tide the water deepens and waves break over the reef, making entry more challenging.

  • Low risk: Slippery rocks

Rocks around the arch and pools can be extremely slippery, especially when wet.

  • Low risk: Steep access path

The rockpools are only accessible via a steep path and stairs from the lookout. Not wheelchair accessible.

  • Low risk: Sharp and slippery rocks

The rocks around the arch and rockpools can be wet, sharp, and uneven. Sturdy water shoes are recommended.

  • Low risk: Changing tide conditions

Best explored at low tide when rockpools are accessible. Incoming tide can cut off access around the arch.
