Little Lagoon is a serene, shallow coastal lagoon on the outskirts of Francois Peron National Park, just 5 km from Denham in the Shark Bay World Heritage Area. Formed by the re-flooding of a salt-lagoon birrada, this turquoise body of calm water serves as a natural nursery for crabs and whiting. Its protected, crystal-clear shallows make it an idyllic spot for swimming, snorkeling, and paddling, while the surrounding sandy beaches and abundant birdlife complete a quintessential coastal experience. The lagoon is accessible by 2WD and offers barbecue facilities, making it perfect for a relaxed day trip.

  • Low risk: Tidal currents at creek mouth

Tidal flow in and out of Lagoon Creek can create currents near the creek entrance. Best visited at slack tide.

  • Low risk: 4WD soft sand tracks

Alternate access tracks around the lagoon have soft sand and require high-clearance 4WD. 2WD vehicles risk getting bogged.

  • Low risk: Shallow depths at low tide

The lagoon is very shallow near the edges and becomes deeper gradually. At low tide, large areas may be too shallow for comfortable snorkeling beyond wading depth.

  • Low risk: Marine stingers (summer)

Shark Bay waters can host marine stingers (jellyfish) during the warmer summer months. Stinger suits are recommended between November and April.
