Little Baron Reef is a remote, hard-coral jewel within the Swain Reefs National Park, roughly 200 km off Yeppoon on the Capricorn Coast. This lesser-known Southern Great Barrier Reef site features spectacular coral-covered drop-offs, dense thickets of healthy hard corals, and crystal-clear oceanic water. Marine biologist Johnny Gaskell ranked it among his top 10 lesser-known GBR reefs, noting the pristine coral condition and dramatic vertical walls. Winter brings migrating humpback whales that use the sheltered waters as a calving ground, while loggerhead turtles are regular visitors. The reef's isolation ensures exceptional water clarity and vibrant marine life, making it a bucket-list destination for snorkelers seeking an untouched outer-reef experience.
