Ledge Beach is a secluded 2-kilometre stretch of brilliant white sand tucked inside Gull Rock National Park, just 25 km northeast of Albany. This sheltered beach on King George Sound offers calm, clear waters that make for excellent snorkelling when conditions are right. The real drawcard is the Awhina shipwreck — its remains are visible protruding from the seabed, and adventurous swimmers can snorkel out from the beach to explore this historic wreck. The nearby headland along Boiler Bay is another popular snorkelling area, with rocky reef habitats teeming with life. Backed by low coastal scrub with views across to Michaelmas and Breaksea Islands, Ledge Beach combines serene beauty with a sense of discovery.

Moderate risk: Tidal currents near shipwreck
The swim out to the Awhina shipwreck requires stamina and awareness of changing tide currents in King George Sound.
Low risk: Variable sea conditions
Water conditions can be rough and visibility may drop when wind and swell pick up. Best on calm, low-wind days.
Low risk: Cold water temperature
Southern Ocean waters remain cold year-round; extended exposure without a wetsuit may lead to hypothermia.
