A sweeping arc of impossibly white sand and crystalline turquoise water, Le Grand Beach stretches along the edge of Cape Le Grand National Park. Backed by low dunes and with distant views of the Recherche Archipelago islands, this beach offers excellent snorkelling around its rocky fringes and nearshore seagrass beds. The waters are typically calm in summer, revealing a vibrant underwater world of colourful reef fish, rays, and occasional octopus. Unlike the more sheltered Lucky Bay, Le Grand Beach faces the open Southern Ocean, giving it a wilder, more dramatic character — perfect for those seeking both beauty and adventure.

Moderate risk: Strong ocean swell
Beach faces the open Southern Ocean with little shelter; strong swells and sudden waves can knock snorkellers against rocks. Check conditions before entering.
Low risk: Soft sand — vehicle bogging risk
Vehicles and campers are warned that vehicles can easily get bogged in the wet and dry sand. Avoid driving onto the beach.
Low risk: Wind exposure
Little natural shelter when windy; wind can pick up quickly, creating choppy surface conditions and reducing visibility.
Low risk: Limited lifeguard coverage
Lifeguard patrols only operate on weekends during summer months. Outside these times, swim and snorkel at your own risk.
