Nestled in the lee of Sloping Island, Lagoon Beach on Tasmania's east coast stretches 1.6 km of golden sand with calm, shallow waters that make it a magnet for families and novice snorkelers. The protected bay offers clear, placid conditions perfect for paddling above sandy flats and seagrass beds teeming with small fish. Backed by 15-metre-high foredunes and fringed by bushland, this is a serene escape where the chill of Southern Ocean waters meets gentle Tasman seas. A local favourite for a restorative dip or a lazy snorkel session away from crowds.

Low risk: Cold water temperature
Tasmanian waters remain cold year-round (12–17°C), which can cause rapid fatigue and discomfort for inadequately prepared swimmers.
Low risk: Rip currents near Sloping Island channel
While usually calm, tidal flows between the beach and Sloping Island can produce rip currents under certain tidal conditions.
