At the northern end of Kings Beach in Caloundra, a natural headland of volcanic rock shelters a series of shallow tidal pools that teem with marine life at low tide. Just beyond the free ocean-fed swimming pool and the lifesaving club, a vibrant fringing reef lies within metres of the boat ramp, offering easy-access snorkelling over patch coral gardens home to toadstool leather corals, vivid soft corals, starfish, sea cucumbers, and nudibranchs. The calm, protected rock pools on the shoreline are perfect for families, while the adjacent deeper reef rewards more adventurous snorkellers with wobbegong sharks, green sea turtles, and over 40 species of reef fish. A boardwalk links to Bulcock Beach, and the patrolled swimming area makes this one of Queensland's safest beaches. Entry is via the boat ramp or the sandy beach.

Moderate risk: Boat traffic near ramp
Boats launching and retrieving at the ramp create a hazard for snorkellers swimming in the immediate area.
Moderate risk: Blue-ringed octopus
Venomous blue-ringed octopus has been spotted on this reef; avoid touching any small octopus.
Moderate risk: Blue-ringed octopus (continued)
Venomous blue-ringed octopus active through summer months as well.
Moderate risk: Strong swell & poor visibility
When seas are choppy, especially in winter, wave action reduces visibility and makes snorkelling off the headland difficult.
Low risk: Choppy seas and poor visibility
Wind and swell stir up sediment, reducing underwater visibility significantly.
Low risk: Rocky entry and exit
Slippery rocks flanking the boat ramp make entering and exiting the water hazardous; the boat ramp itself is the safest access point.
Low risk: Strong wave action on exposed side
Further from shore the wave energy increases, making conditions unsafe for weaker swimmers and dislodging coral.
Low risk: Slippery rocks
Rocky headland and shoreline rocks can be very slippery, especially when wet, posing a slip hazard.
Low risk: Boat traffic
The boat ramp adjacent to the reef is used by launching vessels; snorkellers should be alert near the ramp.
