Killarney Beach, accessed at the end of Mahoneys Road near Port Fairy, is a sheltered, reef-protected shoreline perfect for shore-based snorkelling. The offshore reefs buffer wave action, creating a calm, shallow lagoon barely a couple of metres deep with soft sandy patches between seagrass beds. This gentle environment makes it an ideal spot for families, beginners, and anyone seeking a relaxed paddle in clear, slightly warmer-than-open-ocean water. The surrounding Belfast Coastal Reserve provides a stunning coastal backdrop with abundant birdlife, while winter visitors may spot Southern Right whales migrating offshore. The beach offers a peaceful alternative to busier Great Ocean Road locations.
