Clam Bay is a sweeping, open-facing bay on the eastern side of Great Keppel Island (Wop-pa), part of the Keppel Bay Islands in the Southern Great Barrier Reef. Renowned as a coral trout breeding ground, this fringing reef drops gently from the sandy shore, offering easy access to shallow coral gardens teeming with juvenile coral colonies, anemones, and the occasional turtle. The bay's proximity to the island's walking tracks makes it a favourite for snorkellers who prefer to wade straight in from the beach. Best explored at mid-to-low tide under northerly or easterly winds, when the reef edge is most accessible and the water clarity is at its finest.

Low risk: Wind exposure (southerly/swell)
Best snorkelling conditions occur during northerly or easterly winds. Southerly/westerly winds can create choppy surface conditions and reduced visibility.
Low risk: Tidal range (reef depth)
The reef edge is best accessed at mid-to-low tide. At high tide the reef shelf may be deeper, making it harder to see features; at very low tide corals can be dangerously shallow.
Low risk: Boat traffic
Boat traffic in the bay — water taxis, private vessels and charter boats operate in the area year-round, especially near the reef edge.
