Johns Creek is a protected tidal creek at Point Samson on Western Australia's Pilbara coast, offering calm, sheltered snorkelling within the biodiverse Dampier Archipelago. The sandy shoreline gives easy shore access to shallow waters where coral patches and seagrass meadows support an abundance of fish. Its position inside the bay makes it a reliable option when open-ocean sites are too rough, and the adjacent boat ramp also makes it a popular launch point for exploring the archipelago's outer reefs.

High risk: Crocodile presence
Saltwater crocodiles can inhabit Pilbara coastal creeks and beaches; always exercise caution year-round.
Moderate risk: Cyclone season swells
During the tropical cyclone season (Nov–Apr), the Pilbara coast can experience sudden heavy swell and storm surge, making conditions unsafe.
Moderate risk: Stinger season (box jellyfish)
Potentially hazardous marine stingers may be present during the warmer months in Pilbara coastal waters.
Low risk: Outgoing tide current
The creek can develop a moderate current as the tide ebbs, potentially pulling snorkelers towards the mouth. Best snorkelled on an incoming or high tide.
Low risk: Coral cuts and reef scrapes
Shallow coral patches near the shoreline can cause cuts and abrasions if stepped on. Wear reef shoes and avoid standing on coral.
Low risk: Marine stingers
Box jellyfish and other marine stingers may be present in warmer months (Nov–May). Wear a stinger suit for protection.
Low risk: Tidal currents near creek mouth
Tidal movement at the creek outlet can create localised currents, especially on outgoing tides.
