John's Creek is a popular boat ramp and shore-entry snorkelling launch point on the Pilbara coast, giving access to the world-class coral reefs and sponge gardens of the Dampier Archipelago. Located between Karratha and Point Samson, this tidal creek mouth provides a safe, sheltered put-in for kayaks and small boats heading to nearby islands. The surrounding nearshore waters feature sandy bottoms with seagrass beds and patch reef, offering opportunities to spot rays, turtles, and a kaleidoscope of tropical fish. As the gateway to one of Western Australia's richest marine biodiversity hotspots, John's Creek is prized by locals for its convenient launching and proximity to pristine offshore snorkelling destinations.

Moderate risk: Marine stingers (box jellyfish)
Box jellyfish and Irukandji may be present in Pilbara waters during the warmer months (October to May). Wear a stinger suit for protection.
Low risk: Tidal currents at creek mouth
John's Creek is subject to tidal flow, particularly around the mouth where outgoing currents can be stronger. Snorkellers and small craft should check tide times before entering.
Low risk: Remote location / limited services
John's Creek is a remote boat ramp with no lifeguards, minimal facilities, and limited mobile reception. Snorkellers should be self-sufficient and carry communication equipment.
