Jeanneret Beach (often spelled Jeannerat) is a stunning 250 m stretch of brilliant white sand within the Bay of Fires Conservation Area on Tasmania's far north-east coast. Framed by dramatic granite outcrops cloaked in orange lichen, this sheltered cove offers crystal-clear turquoise waters ideal for snorkeling. The beach sits within a free camping reserve with grassed, tree-sheltered sites at adjacent Round Hill Point. Pristine conditions, gentle surf in calm weather, and easy shore access make it a hidden gem for discovering the Bay of Fires' famous coastal beauty from a different perspective — underwater.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Moderate risk: Cold-water temperatures

Tasmanian east coast waters are temperate and can be cold year-round (typically 12-18°C). Wetsuit essential.

  • Moderate risk: Strong rip current

A strong rip current can develop across the beach, particularly at lower tides or after swell events. Swimmers and snorkelers should exercise caution and assess conditions before entering.

  • Low risk: Rip currents

Rips can occur along this exposed easterly-facing beach, especially with swell activity.

  • Low risk: Slippery granite rocks

The granite outcrops bordering the beach can be extremely slippery when wet, posing a hazard when entering or exiting the water.

  • Low risk: Ocean swell

The beach faces east-southeast and can receive ocean swells, creating challenging conditions for snorkelers on windy days.

  • Low risk: Cold water temperatures

Cold water temperatures year-round in north-east Tasmania; wetsuit recommended for extended snorkeling sessions.

  • Low risk: Submerged granite boulders

Submerged granite boulders and reef patches near the shoreline require careful entry and exit, especially when surf is present.
