The spot

Community-maintained

Innes Park hugs a low, rocky headland on Queensland's Coral Coast, with the adjacent Coral Cove offering the region's best shore snorkelling. At low tide on a calm day, the fringing rock shelf comes alive with fish, coral textures, and the occasional turtle — no boat required. This quiet residential stretch between Bundaberg and Elliott Heads combines a clifftop golf course with easy ocean access, making it a specialist spot for self-guided snorkellers who know to read the weather before they jump in.

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Moderate risk: Swell and surge on rock shelf

On anything but a calm day with small swell, the fringing rock shelf becomes a washing machine of breaking waves and surge, making entry dangerous.

  • Moderate risk: Tide-dependent access

The best snorkelling zone is only accessible and safe at lower tide levels. At high tide the shelf is fully submerged with poor visibility; at low tide the pools are clear.

  • Low risk: Sharp reef and rock cuts

The rock shelf is sharp and uneven underfoot. Reef shoes or booties are essential to avoid cuts from coral and barnacle-encrusted rocks.
