Horseshoe Reef is a standout snorkel and dive site on Agincourt Reef 2, part of the outer ribbon reefs of the Great Barrier Reef off Port Douglas. Named for its distinctive horseshoe-shaped coral formation, this site features large coral bommies that have cracked apart over time, creating dramatic underwater canyons, swim-throughs, and shallow lagoons teeming with marine life. The reef's calm, protected inner lagoon offers exceptional visibility (12-30 m) and easy snorkelling conditions, while the outer edges drop off into deeper channels where drift dives are possible. This is a premier location for encountering Maori wrasse, sea turtles, reef sharks, and colourful coral gardens of staghorn and plate corals.
