Henderson Point is a lesser-known shore-entry dive and snorkel spot on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula, tucked along Port Phillip Bay's eastern coastline. Popular with local divers for both day and night dives, the site offers easy shore access over a gentle sandy slope scattered with rocky reef patches and seagrass beds. The protected bay waters here are typically calm, making it a convenient alternative to the busier piers like Mornington or Rye. It is known among the diving community as a reliable spot for spotting reef fish, crabs, and occasional weedy sea dragons close to shore.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • High risk: Rip Currents

Strong rips are common along the sand spit, particularly on larger swell days.

  • Moderate risk: Strong Surf and Dumping Waves

Exposed ocean beach on Western Port with powerful surf conditions that can be dangerous for inexperienced swimmers and snorkelers.

  • Moderate risk: Unpatrolled Beach

No lifeguard patrols — no safety supervision available.

  • Low risk: Naval Base Access Restrictions

Located within HMAS Cerberus grounds — public access may be limited or restricted during naval operations.

  • Low risk: Variable visibility

Visibility can shift rapidly depending on wind and swell, occasionally dropping below 3 m.

  • Low risk: Boat traffic

The point is exposed to passing recreational and fishing vessels; keep a surface marker visible.

  • Low risk: Rocky reef patches

Irregular low-profile reef and scattered boulders near shore can cause trips or entanglement.
