Hayden's Reef — locally known as Hayden's Rock — is a rocky reef outcrop rising from a sandy seabed located roughly 150 metres offshore between Pebbly Beach and Forster's Main Beach on the NSW Mid North Coast. Depths range from 5 to 8 metres, making it ideal for beginner snorkelers and divers. The reef is covered in seaweed gardens and kelp forests, attracting schooling fish and reef-dwelling marine life. With easy shore access from Pebbly Beach and clear coastal waters, this site offers a relaxed yet rewarding underwater experience right in the heart of Forster.

Moderate risk: Strong currents
Offshore currents can be unpredictable, especially on an outgoing tide or in windy conditions.
Low risk: Boat traffic
The reef is close to shore but may be crossed by vessels accessing Forster waterways.
Low risk: Seaweed entanglement
Dense kelp and seaweed growth on the reef can snag fins or equipment.
Low risk: Variable visibility
Coastal conditions can reduce visibility after wind or swell events.
Low risk: Swell exposure
Exposed to easterly swells which can reduce visibility and create surge conditions over the reef.
Low risk: Cool water temperatures
Water temperatures can drop significantly in winter months, increasing risk of cold shock and reducing bottom time.
