Hampton Harbour Beach is a sheltered swimming beach nestled within the Dampier Foreshore precinct in Western Australia's Pilbara region. Part of the Dampier Archipelago — a world-class marine environment teeming with coral reefs, sponge gardens, and over 650 species of fish — this calm, sandy beach offers safe entry for snorkelers wanting to explore the shallows. It's a quieter alternative to nearby Shark Cage Beach, with picnic areas and shade making it popular for families. The beach sits adjacent to the Hampton Harbour Boat and Sailing Club, providing easy access to the wider archipelago's snorkelling and diving grounds.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Moderate risk: Stinger season (box jellyfish)

Box jellyfish and Irukandji may be present during the warmer months from October through May, requiring protective stinger suits.

  • Low risk: Boat traffic

King Bay experiences moderate boat traffic, especially on weekends. Snorkelers should stay aware of vessels and display a dive flag.

  • Low risk: Stinging jellyfish

Box jellyfish and other stingers may be present during warmer months. Protective clothing recommended.

  • Low risk: Low visibility in summer

Visibility can drop below 5m in warmer months due to plankton blooms and sediment stirred by wind.

  • Low risk: Marine stingers

Box jellyfish and other marine stingers may be present in the warmer months from October to May. Wear a stinger suit.

  • Low risk: Outgoing tide current

Tidal currents can develop around the harbour entrance during outgoing tides. Swim in the sheltered sections.

  • Low risk: Sharp rocks and coral

Entry areas near rocks can be uneven. Coral is fragile and sharp — do not stand on or touch it.

  • Low risk: Hot surface temperatures

Pilbara summer heat is extreme (November to March). Rock surfaces and sand can burn feet. Wear reef shoes and bring plenty of water.

  • Low risk: Heat and sun exposure

Extreme Pilbara heat with limited shade in parts of the beach; sun protection essential.

  • Low risk: Reduced visibility after weather

Cyclones and heavy rain can reduce water clarity, making snorkelling less enjoyable for days to weeks.
