Nestled along the Port Hacking estuary in Sydney's south, Gunnamatta Bay offers a calm, sheltered snorkeling experience just steps from Cronulla station. The netted Gunnamatta Bay Tidal Baths provide a safe, shallow enclosure perfect for beginners and families, while the waters outside the baths feature seagrass beds and sandy patches frequented by local fish. The bay's protected position means minimal swell, making it a reliable year-round option. Gunnamatta Park's sprawling lawns lead right to the foreshore, creating a relaxed seaside vibe for a full day out.

Low risk: Boat traffic
Port Hacking estuary sees moderate recreational and ferry boat traffic near the bay entrance. Stay within the netted bath area for complete safety.
Low risk: Outgoing tide current
As an estuarine bay, outgoing tides can create noticeable currents, especially near the mouth of the bay. Snorkel at high tide or slack water for calmest conditions.
Low risk: Stingers / jellyfish
Bluebottles and other jellyfish can drift into the bay during warmer months, particularly following onshore northeasterly winds.
