Grant's Lagoon is a small, protected coastal lagoon tucked behind the dunes at Binalong Bay on Tasmania's Bay of Fires coast. Its calm, shallow, clear waters are sheltered from open-ocean swell by a sandbar, creating an ideal natural pool for beginner snorkelers. The lagoon sits within an area famed for its orange-hued granite boulders and crystal-clear waters, offering excellent visibility over sandy-bottomed shallows punctuated by scattered rocky reefs. Snorkelers can explore seagrass beds and sand patches in the relatively warm summer months, with easy shore access directly from the beach within the Bay of Fires Conservation Area.

Low risk: Tidal current at sandbar mouth
The lagoon's connection to the ocean can create tidal currents around the sandbar opening, especially on an outgoing tide.
Low risk: Cold water temperatures
Water temperatures can drop significantly (10-16 °C), increasing the risk of cold-water shock even in summer.
Low risk: Reduced visibility from stirred sediment
Sand and sediment can be stirred up by wind or swell, temporarily reducing visibility in the shallow lagoon.
