Grant's Head is a dramatic rocky headland at Bonny Hills on the NSW Mid North Coast, forming the southern gateway to the Camden Haven region. The headland's rock platforms and reef-fringed shoreline create sheltered inshore snorkeling terrain, with clear waters around the cliff base revealing gutters, boulder gardens, and shallow caves. The headland overlooks Grants Beach below — a sweeping stretch of sand where the surf breaks off the point. Snorkelers explore the reefy edges at the base of the headland, particularly on calm, low-tide days when the submerged rock platforms are most accessible and the water clarity is at its best.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Moderate risk: Ocean swell and surge

The exposed headland receives open ocean swell. Surge around the rock platforms can be strong, especially on days with southerly or easterly swell above 1.5 m.

  • Low risk: Sharp rock platforms

The headland's sandstone and rock platforms have sharp, barnacle-encrusted edges that can cause cuts and scrapes when entering or exiting the water.

  • Low risk: Outgoing tide current

Tidal movement around the headland point can create moderate currents, particularly on an outgoing tide when water drains from the Camden Haven estuary system nearby.

  • Low risk: Changing water depth

Depth drops quickly close to shore off the rock ledges, which can surprise waders and inexperienced snorkelers near the cliff base.
