Giant Clams Garden (also known as the Clam Gardens) is a spectacular snorkeling site in Watsons Bay on Lizard Island, part of the remote northern Great Barrier Reef. Snorkelers can swim directly from the sandy beach into shallow, crystal-clear waters dotted with dozens of giant clams (Tridacna gigas), some reaching up to 2 metres in length, their iridescent mantles glowing in brilliant blues, greens, and purples. The site was originally planted in the 1980s as a conservation project and has flourished into a vibrant coral garden surrounded by healthy hard corals. This is one of the few places in the world where you can see such an impressive collection of giant clams in shallow, easily accessible water right off the beach.
