The spot

Community-maintained

Community contribution: submitted by Daniel

Tucked inside the sheltered waters of Botany Bay in La Perouse, Frenchmans Bay Beach offers a calm, sandy escape from Sydney's bustling ocean beaches. The gentle, wave-free waters and rocky edges make it a prime spot for snorkeling, with views across to Bare Island's historic fort. Its north-facing aspect catches golden sunset light, and the protected bay creates near-flat conditions ideal for beginners and families exploring the shallows.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Low risk: Rocky edges

Snorkel entry is via rocky areas adjacent to the beach; sharp barnacles and uneven surfaces require care when entering and exiting the water.

  • Low risk: Boat traffic

The bay sits within busy Botany Bay and is used by recreational and commercial vessels; stay aware of boat lanes near the channel.
